The Ponoka Stampede Association hosts Canada's largest 6 day Rodeo which attracts top professional cowboys from all over North America. The Ponoka Stampede runs at the end of June and beginning of July every year.
In addition to rodeo events and chuck wagon races, there is a beer garden, a midway, concerts, pancake breakfasts, a casino and a parade for your enjoyment. Throughout the summer, high school rodeos are held at the stampede grounds. Click here to visit the official Ponoka Stampede web site.
Black Elk Hockey School: Ponoka is home of this training facility for future champions, which has helped many hockey players make it to the big leagues. Black Elk offers one-week summer hockey camps in Ponoka.
Live Cattle Auction: Ponoka also is home to the largest live cattle auction house in Western Canada. Auctions are held every Wednesday.
The Town of RIMBEY is 46.6 Km (29 Miles) East of Ponoka (35 minutes). Rimbey attractions include: the Smithson Antique Truck Museum, Historic Pas-Ka-Poo Park, and Central Alberta Raceways Motorsports Park. You'll pass an interesting rest stop en route at the halfway (23km) mark! Pull in and check it out.
Lacombe: Lacombe is 27 Km (16.7 Miles) South of Ponoka (21 Mins). Attractions include the Blacksmith Shop Museum, Lacombe Corn Maze, the BoomTown Trail, and Ellis Bird Farm.
Also in Lacombe is the Michener House Museum, where Roland Michener (Canada's Governor General from 1967-1974) was born.
